PUMPKIN SEED OIL PGI

The Styrian pumpkin seed oil is an Austrian speciality carefully produced for more than 300 years according to a traditional method in regional oil mills. For pressing the dark green, nutty oil, only the seeds of the Styrian oil pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo var. Styriaca) are used, which grows in Austria in certain areas of cultivation under ideal climatic conditions. Styrian pumpkin seed oil PGI is a recognised designation of origin with regional protection and it underlies strict quality checks.

Our Styrian pumpkin seed oil is a cold-pressed natural oil produced under careful conditions according to the traditional stamping press method. In doing so, numerous valuable plant ingredients are maintained. It is rich in natural vitamin E, selenium, phytosterols and unsaturated fatty acids. Pumpkin seed oil is said to have an antioxidant and antihypertensive effect. Moreover, it is used for the treatment of prostate diseases and irritable bladders in the field of natural medicine.

In the kitchen, pumpkin seed oil has a broad range of uses. Due to its subtle nutty taste, it provides lots of dishes with a unique character. It is preferably used for marinating salads, aspic and soups, and also for baking (the so-called „Guglhupf“, a ring cake, and biscuits) and for refining desserts with vanilla ice cream.
